3 Tips To Healthy Eating
Apr 18, 2016
Summer is just around the corner, so it's a great time to kickstart some healhy habits and shed those extra winter pounds. Here are 3 simple tips you can start today to make your food healthier and shape up for the beach.
1. Water, water and more water
Around 70% of our body is made up of water so staying hydrated is absolutely key to a healthy lifestyle. Firstly the body can confuse thirst for hunger, so when you feel peckish it might just be a sign that you're dehydrated. Secondly, a hydrated body burns fat at a much higher rate than a dehydrated body as water speeds up your metabolism.
A simple way to start the day fresh is by drinking water as soon as you wake up to rehydrate. Also keeping a water bottle with you throughout the day will ensure you get enough water in - check out the BU water bottle.
2. Green and lean juice
For most of us with busy daily routines it’s a big challenge to get our recommended daily intake of vegetables every day. Not only does juicing help you get enough fruit and veg, it’s also a great way to turn boring and bland vegetables into a delicious drink. Ditch the morning coffee and get a natural energy boost by having a green juice or smoothie!
3. Love the coco
Most people are put off eating coconut oil after looking at the nutritional info because it's high in saturated fats. But that's not the whole story, it’s important to dig a little deeper as not all saturated fats are unhealthy. Coconut oil is actually made up of natural forms of saturated fat called MCTs (medium chain triglycerides) which are used by the body as energy and not stored as fat.
Another huge benefit of coconut oil is that it’s highly resistant to oxidation (it has a high smoke point). This makes it an ideal cooking oil - as opposed to olive oil which breaks down when heated.
